Blue Room Project
The senior boys in the 20th Leith Boys’ recently concluded a project to refurbish one of the rooms in our church halls. The room had previously only been used for storage.
The Blue Room is now an attractive space where the boys can socialise in a relaxed atmosphere. It is also used as a valuable resource for BB activities. We are currently investigating ways in which people who do not have access to a personal computer at home could use the room for essay writing and Internet access.
To date we have raised over £3000 through fund-raising and approaches from to different trusts. We also received significant gifts in kind - seating from Edinburgh Airport, an old PC from a local MP and a gift of paint from Craig and Rose Ltd. The Church provided a skip to enable us to clear a lot of the rubbish from the room and installed additional power points.
The room is now equipped with 4 pcs, Playstation 2, television, video, Nintendo 64 console, stereo and DVD. The room is already popular with the seniors and the younger members of the company. The Sunday School and other church groups are also making use of the facilities.
The Brigade Secretary officially opened the Blue Room in May 2001, and the BB Gazette highlighted the project as an excellent example of youth empowerment and participation.
